Dr. Emily Bailin Wells is an independent researcher, practitioner, and educator in media literacy, social justice, and teacher education. She currently is an adjunct professor at New York University’s Professional Writing Program, where she teaches courses like, Document Design and Data Visualization. In Fall 2020, she launched Holding | Space: De|Centering Whiteness, a dialogue and arts-based program designed to support white people in deep and authentic racial identity exploration as a starting point for being actively anti-racist. Her media literacy work spans writing and research as well as her involvement in the National Association of Media Literacy Education (NAMLE) for more than a decade. Most recently, she served as the Research Chair for the annual conference in 2021, around the theme of Social Justice + Media Literacy. She holds an Ed.D. in Communication & Education from Columbia University.
